Meditation is understood to be a practice where we find a state of awareness, the quiet space between sleep and full alertness. . It is often referred to as our “ true self “or the “ unconditioned self “, separate from but complimentary to our physical selves .In wisdom traditions it was understood that however vast the external world there is an even vaster one within each of us which is neither attached to time or place. It is a rich practice offering us a free inner tool with which to make lasting improvements to our physical emotional and spiritual wellbeing.
Accessing this inner space is not difficult nor it need to take a lot of time: we are hardwired for it since birth! Using the breath as the doorway in, we can quickly remember how to quiet the chatter of the mind and access this deeper layer of ourselves for a wide range of physical, emotional and spiritual benefits.

Knowing that every thought we have (positive and negative) shows up in our bodies: stressful thoughts in particular activate the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight response ) and generate cascades of inflammation making hormones: where inflammation goes unchecked by our immune systems we can produce inflammation in our brains ( dementia , Alzheimer’s ) heart disease, cancer, arthritis, diabetes and pain.
We now have numerous medical studies that show meditation quickly dials down the sympathetic system and takes us to our parasympathetic system ( “ rest and relax “ ) where healing and recovery from the physical and emotional stresses of lour thoughts and our lives can take place with ease.
