Massage therapy is most effective when treating discomfort during and after pregnancy.
The changes that occur during pregnancy affect most systems of the body and can result in problems such as backache, leg cramps and emotional adjustments.
These symptoms can start during the first few weeks of pregnancy and can last for months or years after delivery if left untreated.
Studies have shown that women who received massage therapy have reported decreased depression, anxiety, and leg and back pain. (Field T, et al., J Psychosom Obstet Gynaecol. 1999 Mar;20(1):31-8). (Field T, et al., Psychosom Obstet Gynaecol. 2004;25:115-122).
Specially designed pregnancy massage cushions ensure that the patient and her baby, are comfortable and relaxed lying prone or on the side.
Lying prone in pregnancy can feel wonderful as the weight of the baby is supported by gravity as well as the cushions.
At Trimetrics I work closely with the physiotherapists and Pilates instructors for the additional pelvic alignment spine and pelvic floor work so necessary for the pre and post natal woman’s body.
We work together addressing the problems of pregnancy as well as preventively to ensure a fit strong body for subsequent pregnancies and an active lifestyle.
My patients really value and appreciate the unique team approach we offer at Trimetrics.
